Mariages 1857-1896 St. John’s Presbyterian, Cornwall
The editor of this book notes that the information comes from original research by Jack Schecter and that Mr. Schecter’s research from the original records contains more details than the microfilms he had been using.
There is an index of names in the back of the book.
One should note that while this book is listed for Dundas County, as of 2014 the counties of Dundas, Stormont and Glengarry are united.
St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Cornwall, Ontario Births, Marriages, Deaths 1833-1856
The information in this book was taken from film loaned to the author by the Ontario Archives. Unfortunately the baptismal information does not include the date of birth and sponsors are not listed.
Similarly the marriage records do not seem to list the parent’s names, but they do give the witnesses.
This book is also listed for Dundas County.
St.Columban’s Mission / Parish
There is a lengthy introduction that includes information on the sources for this book. This book’s largest section is births (baptisms). The listing for each child gives the baptism number from the parish ledger, the date of baptism, the names of the parents and sponsors. Sometimes additional information is given such as the date of birth or the approximate age of the child.
The second section is 34 pages of burial records. The burial records have varying information, which can include birthplace, cause of death, or witnesses at the burial.
The third section is two pages listing names of children who were confirmed.
The final section is marriage records. Again these have varying amounts of information. An index of names is also included at the end of the book.
St. Mary’s Indian School, Kenora (Ontario) Baptemes, marriages, deces, confirmations 1898-1910
The book is a copy of the handwritten documents of St. Mary’s Indian boarding school in Kenora, Ontario. If you are looking for information on native ancestors in this area you will want to look at this book despite the rather tiny handwriting. Section one is the biggest with many baptisms. The second and third sections are marriages and deaths. The fourth, confirmations, is shorter.
The Parish Registers of St. Margaret of Scotland
St. Margaret of Scotland in North Lancaster, Ontario is a Roman Catholic parish.
The largest section of the book is baptisms. The information here comes from two register books, one covers from 1881 to 1898, and the other covers 1931 to 1954. Burial records go from 1886 to 1898. This is followed by two pages of communion records. (One should note that the communion records are not mentioned in the title or the introduction.)
The marriage records also come from two parish registers, one from 1887 to 1898. The second is from 1899 to 1921. Unlike many other repertoires this book has transcriptions of the original record, in its entirety. There is also a lengthy index to the names in the book.
The Parish Registers of Births, Marriages, Deaths of St. Regis Part 2 1831-1879
This book includes records of births, deaths and marriages of the mission of St. Regis, which lies on the south side of the St. Lawrence River, across from Cornwall, Ontario. It includes early records for St. Andrews West, St. Raphael’s, Cornwall, Indian Lands (properly known as Nutfield). Long Sault and St. Patrick’s in Hogansburg, New York. Also included are additions and corrections to Part One.
It would be worth one’s time to read the relevant information from the lengthy introduction that the author adds as to what information was on the films that he decided not to transcribe.
