[Editor’s note: This 1st of 4 entries is taken from a report by Lynn Johnson, member of the VT-FCGS Acquisitions Committee, as part of a progress report submitted to the VT-FCGS Board.]

Janet Eno Landry and I had the opportunity to buy some second-hand books from The Genealogie et Archives Saint-Laurent in Ontario and from the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston. We used these opportunities to try to fill in some of the gaps in our book collection. In each case there was usually only one copy of a title and it was first come, first served, so we had to move quickly. They ordered eleven books from Saint-Laurent and were lucky enough to be able to purchase 9 of the ones we wanted. We ordered fifteen books from NEHGS. We were only able to actually acquire five of those titles but we are pleased with what we did get.

Books of Quebec

Repertoire de Mariages de St-Alphonse de Bagotville (1858-1984) and St-Marc de Bagotville (1953-1984)
These two churches are in Chicoutimi, Quebec. Each section starts off with a history of the parish then the list giving the bride or groom, their parents’ names, the date of the marriage and the spouse’s name.
The section for St-Marc’s is shorter owing to it being a much newer parish. Towards the end of this section there is a page of corrections that one should be sure to check. There is also a list of abbreviations and an index at the end of the book.

Repertoires des Mariages de L’Ile D’Orleans
This book of marriage records covers six parishes in L’Ile D’Orleans, Quebec. The parishes are: Sainte-Famille (1666-1963), Sainte-Pierre (1679-1963), Saint-Francois (1679-1963), Saint-Jean (1679-1963), Saint-Laurent (1679-1963) and Sainte-Petronville (1872-1963). The records are mixed together with an abbreviation to denote which parish the record is from.
