New to Genealogy? Start the RIGHT way.

book_treeQuite frankly I just decided to jump in with both feet and start looking at any or all the resources that were available at the Vermont Genealogy Library hoping to find a surname that I was looking for. I had no idea what I was looking for and where to find it but I spent many, many hours pouring over the information written in their resources. After a couple of weeks I realized that I was not using my time wisely and asked the Librarian for assistance. Well, within a few minutes she found one of my ancestors listed on a microfiche. I got very excited and spent the rest of the day combing through the microfiche and writing down the information. I was very pleased with myself until I got home and looked at my notes to find that I had some conflicting information. When I returned to the Library I was unable to find where I originally found the information because I had not cited which microfiche I had used to. So I had to get more help from the Librarian who showed me how to use forms and charts to document my research.

If I had attended a Beginning Genealogy class like the one being held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 10:30am to Noon at the Vermont Genealogy Library  I would have learned how to organize, know which research method to use and document my findings the right way.
